My Website is Trying To Tell Me Something

I thought I was above it, but I’m really not. Imagine coming home after a long day at work and your wife and kids ignore you instead of rubbing your feet and cooking you dinner. I know, that sounds terrible. That also sounds like me comparing my website to my imaginary wife and my videos to my unborn children, and though that’s inaccurate for all the reasons you can rightfully list, it is also the way my life has apparently taken shape.
I’ve made my “webstats” public for the world to see– like taking your personal life on Jerry Springer (except I guess I would be speaking through a child who is on my wife’s back…to continue the above metaphor) I’ve decided to show the world the reason for my tears. It’s also like Jerry Springer in that this post will only serve to make me look like an idiot. So lets continue…
The proper way to read the above graph is to keep in mind that once a month or so I do something major to the website– new code, new theme, etc. In order to complete said changes I have to put the site under a number of different tests (I want to make sure when I open the flood gates that everything works! ha-HA!) and tests ultimately equal hits. Therefore, it follows that those giant spikes that nearly make it to the hundred hits mark? Those are me. That leaves the rest for everyone else…which…let me do some quick math…comes out to about…er…7 hits a day. 7 hits a day. I know three people who could visit my site twice in a day and a few porn robots who do the same.
One would think that this would imply a number of positive advantages. I could, for instance, post private messages on the front page to people and then direct them to the website when I want them to see it! I could also…..nope, there are no real advantages. The only advantage goes to my army of therapists who get paid to tell me I’m very talented…no matter what.
What do hits really mean? Sure, for the most part hits come from people I don’t know or can’t respect, and they usually depend on a channel or site being congruent in it’s content, but why make videos or have a website if you’re not angling for hits? Hit’s and subscribers are power points that give your content credibility….credibility in the eyes of people with money.
Lets just make it clear: I want someone to pay me to make travel videos. Actually, any videos, and that isn’t happening for the time being. Even I feel like my travel logs need work, but when you can’t account for the 1,325,653,178 hits a puppy licking it’s taint gobbles up in a month, I don’t think you can quibble about perfection. Surely more than 15 (very familiar) people enjoy seeing the country?
No?
Oh ok, I guess that makes sense.
